Brief:

As we are trying to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, its crucial to look beyond the current moment and rethink the future of our climate actions and to evaluate our preparedness in preventing and mitigating a future climate pandemic.

This session will open a discussion among experts to exchange opinions on the current crisis as a global game changer and the chances to gear it to a better future not just for us but equally for our planet.

Mohammad Asfour | Head, MENA & Africa Regional Networks |
World Green Building Council

Mohammad Asfour is a passionate, green, global citizen. He is head of the World Green Building Council MENA & Africa Regional Networks.
He served as a Senior Adviser at the USAID Energy Sector Capacity Building Program and as the Environment, Water, and Energy Sector Lead at the USAID Jordan Economic Development Program. He was appointed as an adviser to the Board of Trustees at the Princess Sumaya University for Technology, founded the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship, and worked on developing the concept behind El Hassan Science City.
Mohammad has also worked at the Jordan Investment Board and served as a consultant for the UNDP, UNIDO, and USAID’s AMIR Program. He was appointed as a regional advisor to OECD’s MENA Investment Program, chaired UNEP – SBCI's Advocacy Committee – and was a founding Board member at Al Shajarah NGO.
Mohammad received his BA in Business from the University of Jordan and his Masters in Positive Leadership and Strategy from the IE Business School in Madrid.


Dr Chadi Aoun | Professor and Information Systems Program Director|
Carnegie Mellon University Qatar

Dr. Chadi Aoun is a professor and Information Systems program director at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. He holds a PhD in Information Systems from the University of New South Wales, along with qualifications in business, education, and environmental science.

He is an expert in green information systems, sustainability management, geographic information systems, and e-collaboration. Dr Aoun’s research applies transdisciplinary perspectives towards studying the pivotal role of information systems in complex sociomaterial contexts pertaining to sustainability, collaboration, and climate change.

His academic experience includes appointments at universities in the US, Australia, UK, and Thailand. Dr. Aoun received a teaching award in 2010 from Macquarie University and the Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar’s meritorious teaching award in 2018. He served as president of SIGGreen at the Association for Information Systems.


Harry Sealy | Environmental & Sustainability Manager – Founding & Chair IEMA Middle East|
Jacobs Qatar

Harry, with over 20 years experience in environmental management, is a resident of Qatar since 2012 and is the environmental and Sustainability Manager for Jacobs in Qatar. Currently leading EIAs on multiple projects, he was lead author of the first CEMPs on the world Cup Stadia, the Environmental Management section of the Qatar National Highways Design Manual and the Sustainability Strategy for a major educational campus in Qatar. He has been instrumental in pioneering the use of CEEQUAL on major civil infrastructure projects in Qatar in addition to supervising environmental management of construction on several expressways Programs.

A Fellow of IEMA, Harry is the founding Chairperson of IEMA in Qatar and the Middle East. The IEMA Steering Group in Qatar, has engaged with a range of key stakeholders – and organized multiple successful networking seminars on different topics from Climate Change to Circular Economy.

Qatar Green Building Council

At the Qatar Green Building Council, Hamoda coordinates sustainability integration efforts for a variety of projects, sustainability-oriented initiatives, and programs As a LEED & WELL Faculty, he facilitates sustainability trainings, provides sustainability assessment and consulting. Hamoda studied Architecture, earning a Master’s degree in environmental planning from Italy.
