FIFA World Cup 2022™ in Qatar represent a great opportunity to accelerate and effectively drive the implementation of a sustainability-conscious development in Qatar. the Carbon Neutral mega event can help in realizing a tangible and lasting impact on several business sectors especially those that are hospitality related.
In May 2017, Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), was accepted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to oversee the national management of the ‘Green Key’ program in Qatar. Hospitality establishments in Qatar are able to obtain the internationally recognized environmental sustainability certification through QGBC, which oversees the national management of the ‘Green Key’ program in Qatar. The comprehensive guidelines to obtain Green Key certification provides a clear path for the sector to follow and achieve their sustainability goals during operation in addition to meeting the requirements of the Qatar Tourism Authority new classification system.
The Green Key award is a leading standard of excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. The Green Key eco-label for tourism facilities has been in existence for more than 20 years and has thus far certified more than 2900 hotels and hospitality establishments in 57 countries based on criteria including staff and environmental management, energy efficiency, water conservation, green activities, indoor environment, green areas, and corporate social responsibility.
